MY BODY
If I were borrowing something valuable from a friend, I wouldn't dream of treating it badly; I'd be taking great care of it so he or she would know I am trustworthy and respecting their things. When I'm in a guest's home, I don't abuse it and start altering their décor. Why should I think my body is any less valuable to God?
"Honor the Lord with your body" (I Corinthians 6:20)
The Scripture says that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. We are commanded to honor the Lord with our bodies. How do you do that? You take care of it. You respect it. You treat it as valuable. You use your body to bring Him glory. When you stand strong against temptation, you are honoring the Lord with your body. When you take care of yourself by eating properly and getting enough sleep, you are honoring the Lord with your body. You are saying, "Lord, thank you for this gift of life. I am choosing to take care of myself so that I can serve you with my whole heart, mind, and strength. As you honor the Lord with your body, you will be strengthened and empowered by His peace. You'll be able to stand against temptation and walk in love this holiday season and all the days of your life!
Unhealthy lifestyle choices can cause our time in the flesh to be shortened. How we treat our bodies can affect our thoughts, mood and physical abilities; they can make us less effective for Christ. How do you treat your body? Do you treat your body as a temple for the Lord using it to serve Him and carry out His will? Are you making healthy choices that keep you in proper position to serve? I'm working on this myself and I hope you will begin to work on this too.
